Fresh Out of the Oven: Ocean Inspired Cookies.

Ok, so I know it’s not quite the weather yet, but just last week I had a special request for cookies that followed an ocean-theme.
Beach-themed parties can be a lot of fun, especially as we start slowly edging towards the warmer months! Spot decorations such as these starfish, seahorse,  and angelfish cookies give any party a “beachy” feel.Starfish and Seahorse Cookies by Flippin Good Cookies.

The pilgrims used to send confections, such as sugar wafers, marzipan, and sugar plums, to their affianced. High value was placed on these gifts because they included what was then a rare product, sugar. After the late 1800′s, beet sugar became widely used and more available, and sweet gifts continued to be cherished and enjoyed.

My new found love for Pinterest…

Sometimes I feel like I’m always late to the game when it comes to the newest things on the information-super-highway (yes, I still call it that)!  So, I recently stumbled across a little-known website called Pinterest, and I’m soooooooo glad I did! For anyone as “behind the times” as I, the basic premise of Pinterest is as a social networking website, but purely for images and video. For people with a short attention-span (such as yours truly) it’s PERFECT! A simple search for “cookies” turned out more ideas than I even know what to do with! Here are some of my favorites:

Reindeer Cookies

Bride and Groom Cookies

Tough Cookies

Summer is a time for relaxing, hanging out with friends & family, celebrating holidays, & brand new Reality Shows!!

I must admit that I am a fan of a lot of cooking reality shows.  So many that my DVR has a time keeping up with them, but I am making room for one more & man is this a good one!  On July 10th I am all set up to watch Tough Cookies on the Food Network.  Here is the synopsis from Food Network:

This summer, the only things more popular than the beach in Ocean City, N. J., are the cookies at Crazy Susan’s. Run by a loving, squabbling and cacophonous multigenerational family, Crazy Susan’s never knows a dull moment. Sisters Susan and Linda try to keep everything running smoothly — but with lines out the door, phones that never stop ringing and family members who seem to create more problems than solutions, they’ll need to work their tails off to keep those cookies from crumbling.

How much fun does that sound!  So if you are like me & have an addiction nice time watching reality shows, don’t forget about this little gem on Food Network July 10th at 10pm/9c:)

Summer Time!

It is almost officially Summer, even though for some of us it has felt like Summer for a couple of weeks!

Summer is such a great time of the year.  To me it means the beach, Fourth of July, Cool Drinks, & Ice Cream.  Here are some sweet treats that are becoming my faves this Summer:

Who Needs Paper

I know that this is going to come as a surprise to most of you so here goes, I LOVE cookies, and one of my favorite things to do is check all of the cool things that you can do with cookies.  Nowadays cookies aren’t just yummy little circles with some chocolate chips thrown in; they can be amazing & fun.  The other day while I stalking checking out my favorite sites, I came across this little gem at Bake at 350. Isn’t this one of the cutest things you have ever seen?  The possibilities are endless when you can draw on a cookie.  I cannot wait until I get my kids to Jacksonville & have their Nona (AKA the head cookie maker) whip us up some of these bad boys.  This also might curtail the drawing on the walls that they are so fond of.  I’ll update you on their creations, but until then, what kind of ideas or inspirations do these cookies give you?
